Abyssal
A poem by Dublin based poet and writer, Ruairi Conneely, “Abyssal” speaks to the red top news looking back into you.
To create this, I used a piece of software called ebSynth to apply key frame drawings I made over the raw footage to the surrounding frames, applying this rotoscope-style effect. In reality, what looks like thousands of hand drawn frames is only a dozen or so. Then I brought it into After Effects to underlay some moving background text and create the transitions at the start and end. A happy accident is that the footage and sound started to desynch due to a mistake in ebSynth. Rather than start over, I tried some doppler effects and reverse reverb/audio filters, which added to the nightmarish quality.
I am currently working on another piece of ebSynthed poetry that will carry these effects further.
