“The Covenant” is a short film written, directed, edited and filmed by yours truly. Adapted from a short story by Agustina Anselmi (who also did the costumes), it teases a larger story about an early 18th century alchemist and his assistant as they quest to complete his magnum opus, but something darker is bubbling to the surface.

This was a no budget project, primarily filmed in the span of 3 hours with pickups to imply a larger story. After much searching, I found a usable location in the Islington Arts Factory, a desanctified church used for arts, dance and music, to serve as Lorzen’s (the alchemist) study. I created the music using demos of medieval instruments I found online and cutting, looping and adding filters. The props were collections of our various related occulty materials, with the two featured pages in the final close up being recreations of manuscripts, and the flask of gold being a purchase from the alchemy museum in Prague.

Ultimately it was a nice fast shoot, pushing against the limitations of having no money to create something that looks period at a glance. It also helped me to earn funding for the next project.
